(OR)

Maybe I should make the "O" a circle instead of a square letter form, even though it is for a window.

Serif fonts are more elegant and Christmas time in appearance.

After talking with the professor, the brick idea seemed to be too heavy.

infographics

Image taken from Good Magazine.

I chose this one because it instantly popped out at me. The colors have a vibrant eye catching quality, and I loved the graffiti style treatment. The information also seemed interesting to me. Each drug has it's own color and wacky style of type treatment. The vertical bars represent different sectors of  the United States and what drugs are the biggest issue. I assume each word also has some element of what the drug does to a person upon taking it.

Nature Quote

My quote was "We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts." William Hazlitt. The word "understanding" was large, so I decided to work around with it and find the way it would fit the best.
I decided to anchor it to the right because it looked best.
I decided to go with a knock out color scheme, and I picked a different shade of green.
Played with the leading and spaced it all evenly from the edge, so it would look the best. I arranged the words to flow better and work with the reader.

My two fonts are Lemon Milk and Yaquote Script.

Y&R — educational - Colegate-Palmolive education in a box

Colgate-Palmolive started a program in Myanmar this year to help promote healthy oral practices in their country. After some research, they discovered that rural areas and primary school children were in the most need of help. These areas are considered to be "media dark" because they have little to no digital media getting to them. Colgate decided to work with Y&R, a well known consumer advertisement agency, to create a package design promoting local standards of oral health on the interior of the boxes they shipped to Myanmar. The posters include a lesson plan, graphic, and a toll free number teachers could call and listen to recorded material pertaining to oral health.

Instead of going with westernized artwork styles, Y&R decided to study Burmese illustrations to make their designs more accessible to the students. Using native folk art helped solve the visual problem, by helping the students understand things more clearly since it was imagery they were accustomed to. Using these illustrations with bright vibrant colors, beautiful patterns ,and textures they were able to tell a story and get across the necessary lesson plan. The brushing, food, and health designs were illustrated to help the children understand more clearly. As for font, it was written in their own language in thick, dark, legible letters.

Young and Rubicam is a consumer advertisement agency that focuses on research, data insight, design, and purpose to help their brand relate the their consumer. The company was founded in the 1960s by John Orr Young and Raymond Rubicam and started out as a small advertisement company. They are now one of the largest consumer ad agencies in the world.

Stamp

I chose this stamp for several reasons. I really appreciate the script letter f being in the zero of the 40. I think the modern "didot" font really fits the scene of the two sword fighters and the lady elegantly taking the man's hand. I also appreciate that the stamp took the form of a diamond instead of a square.

The stamp is well balanced. I like the text treated as a border framing the top part of the diamond. The font is an excellent choice because it works well with the architecture as well as represented the idea of the open air festival that is put on in Magyar.

Side Note: Thought this was cool. The new show Gotham has Old Style font, and it totally works for the show.

I have several ideas swimming in my head. I can't wait to get started.

Unfortunately, I do not have very many options in Illustrator for font choices. This is Garamond typeface. Out of the two choices I had, I chose Garamond. The photo below shows Palatino font (the largest). I really don't like the lower case p, and the way it has the awkward weight change on the bowl.
I like the Garamond font for several reasons. I like the open aperture on the bowl of the capital P. I like the gentle dip in the serifs that Old Style fonts have. I appreciate the mostly consistent weight of the letter as well.
I started to play around with the letterform, I realized I started to make a monkey or ape like abstract figure with the P's! Prime Ape!
Also, the little P's upper stylized serif fit perfectly into the curves of the upper case P!
